UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan (PIX11) – A beloved New York City icon is back in a new way.
The New York Historical, a museum on the Upper West Side, will host a new exhibition called “The Year of Flaco” in honor of the escaped Eurasian eagle-owl.
The exhibition will run from Feb. 7 through July 6. Curators will showcase Flaco's story through photos and videos as well as feature letters, drawings, and objects left at the owl’s favorite oak tree.
Flaco made headlines in February 2023 after someone cut the netting around his enclosure at the Central Park Zoo, allowing him to escape.
Against many expectations that a zoo-raised animal wouldn’t survive on its own, Flaco learned to hunt and continued to live freely near the Central Park area until February of the following year.
More information and tickets for “The Year of Flaco” exhibition can be found online.
