NEW DELHI: Former prime minister of

Pakistan

,

Nawaz Sharif

, said on Wednesday that the primary focus of the upcoming government led by his party would be to address the

struggling

economy.
Sharif emphasized that all the issues faced by the financially strained nation were interconnected with economic challenges.
“The government will try to fix the economy which would in turn fix everything,” Sharif conveyed to the media upon his arrival at the Parliament House.

Sharif, unexpectedly nominating his younger brother Shehbaz Sharif for prime minister in a coalition government, expressed his desire for every National Assembly, Senate, and Prime Minister to serve their full constitutional term.

No prime minister in Pakistan, prone to coups, has completed a full five-year term; Sharif himself was ousted thrice mid-term. Upon his arrival at the National Assembly, he was greeted by prime ministerial candidate Shehbaz Sharif and party members for the PML-N's parliamentary meeting. Chaired by Nawaz Sharif, the meeting will discuss the PML-N's strategy for the upcoming NA inaugural session.
Despite assistance from international donors and friendly nations averting potential default, Pakistan's economy remains troubled. It's anticipated that another IMF program will be necessary after the current one. The economy has been deteriorating for years, resulting in severe inflation and immense hardship for the impoverished population.
