Five sandalwood trees axed in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: Unidentified people axed five sandalwood trees at Red Fields near Race Course in the city on Wednesday night. Police said the unknown smugglers entered the premises of the old quarters for sub-judges on the Kamaraj Road at Red Fields, axed the trees and took away the trunks.Forest department officials visited the place and collected the remains of the axed trees.The Race Course investigation police have initiated an inquiry into the incident.The incident happened near the senior police officers’ camp offices and vital defence installations at Red Fields, raising concerns over the efficiency of policing and night patrols.
