KOLKATA: The
Kolkata Municipal Corporation
ward 40 along with the publishers and
booksellers guild
on Wednesday inaugurated the first edition of '
Basanta Utsav
o Boi mela' at
College Square ground
today. The seven day fair, which will be an annual event from now on, has over 60 book stalls of reputed publication houses for book lovers.
The fair was inaugurated by renowned author Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay in presence of other eminent literary figures and dignitaries.
Guild president Tridib Chatterjee and honorary general secretary Sudhangshu Sekhar Dey said that it was discussed with the KMC ward 40 officials as to why not also organising a book fair to go along with the Basanta utsav where book lovers can come and flip along the pages of newly published books in a festival atmosphere.
"There is hardly any book stall in College Street where one can have a look at by flipping through its pages before buying. Also there are several new books which have been published in the Kolkata book fair which book lovers will be able to see in this fair," said Dey.
