CHANDIGARH: Punjab and Haryana high court has ordered the CBI to probe the case pertaining to

extortion

of money from a Panchkula resident by some persons, including one

Vinay Aggarwal

, who posed as an

IPS officer

of inspector general of police IG rank. The latteralso moved about with security, allegedly provided by two DGP rank officers of

Haryana police

.
In its detailed orders, the HC has asked the CBI director "to consider constituting an SIT of CBI, headed by a senior officer as grave allegations have been levelled against senior Haryana Police officials". One of the senior Haryana IPS officers is of DGP rank while the other has retired at this rank sometime back.
Imperative that probe is independent, impartial: HC
As per the allegations, they had provided police personnel and police escort vehicles to Aggarwal, who is accused of extorting money from the complainant.

Aggarwal has been facing a case in Himachal Pradesh, too, where some policemen allegedly sent by the senior Haryana IPS officers with the accused were arrested by Himachal Pradesh Police. This led to the unearthing of the '

racket

' with the help of its CID wing.
"The involvement of the Haryana Police officials, who were neither on leave nor present at their official posting, when they were alleged to have been accompanying co-accused Vinay Aggarwal to Himachal Pradesh, raises serious concerns about possible patronage being received from high-ranking police officials of Haryana... It is imperative that investigation is carried out independently and impartially so that rights of the parties to a fair trial are not compromised," the HC has ordered.

Justice Manjari Nehru Kaul of the HC has passed these orders while disposing of a petition filed by

Jagbir Singh

, a resident of Panchkula.
In this case, the main allegations are that Aggarwal, HP drug officer Nishant Sareen, one Komal Khanna and others usurped Rs 7 crores from the complainant by pressurizing him and playing a fraud on him.
The complainant, Jagbir Singh, is a resident of Sector 20 Panchkula, and one of the directors of companies collectively known as

Symbiosis Group

of Companies.
According to the petitioner, an FIR was registered against him in Panchkula in October 2022 for cheating and related charges at the behest of senior ranking Haryana cops to pressurise him to withdraw the complaint in the main scam.
