Users who have multiple smart devices connected at their homes usually have to scroll through lists to manage them.
Samsung
claims that the average home in the US has 16 connected devices and the number is expected to increase in the coming days. As these devices increase in number, it’ll become more difficult for
smart device users
to keep track of their setups.
Samsung has developed a solution to retire the boring lists. The South Korean tech giant unveiled the
Map View
feature for
SmartThings
at the CES 2024 tech industry event. This feature is set to transform the way SmartThings users manage connected smart home devices. Samsung is set to roll out the SmartThings
3D Map View
feature in March.
How SmartThings 3D Map View feature can be helpful
The SmartThings 3D Map View feature puts all
connected smart devices
on 3D floor plans that represent the user's home in detail. SmartThings users will be able to use Map View on their smartphones, tablets and smart TVs to control connected smart home devices and gain immediate access to information.
Users can also navigate the Map View and control smart devices to manage real-time camera monitoring, laundry times, temperatures and other important data. This feature will also offer energy usage information from a bird's eye perspective.
This feature will not only improve the
smart home management
experience but will also allow users to customise their 3D maps with furniture and
AI characters
.
SmartThings users can also access the 3D Map to create AI characters that resemble their family members and pets. These characters will also be able to provide additional feedback. For example, if the temperature outside is high and the home is too warm, these AI characters will appear to be sweating.
How to create a 3D Map View of your home
Samsung has confirmed that “anyone can easily create a 3D layout of their home in Map View using AI technology.” To be specific, users can input their address and automatically create a layout. However, users will be able to create a 3D Map as long as their homes have their floor plans available on the internet.
Apart from this, users can also take a photo of a physical copy or image of a floor plan. SmartThings will automatically convert it into a 3D layout. Also, smart home devices equipped with
LiDAR
technology can also scan the home and generate floor plans for users.
