Peter Navarro

for

contempt of Congress

charges by an appeals court on Thursday.
The court ordered Navarro to report to prison by March 19 for his refusal to cooperate with a congressional probe into the January 6, 2021,

Capitol attack

.
Navarro, who served as a trade adviser under President Trump, had argued that he should remain free while appealing his conviction.

However, a three-judge panel in Washington, DC. disagreed, stating that his appeal was unlikely to succeed. Despite his legal team's intention to appeal to the Supreme Court, they declined to comment on the recent ruling.

This decision makes Navarro the second Trump aide to face contempt charges, following Steve Bannon. Bannon, a former White House adviser, received a four-month sentence but was allowed to remain free during his appeal process by a different judge.
The case against Navarro stemmed from his refusal to comply with a subpoena from the House January 6 committee for documents and testimony. He cited executive privilege invoked by Trump as the reason for non-cooperation, a claim rejected by US District Judge Amit Mehta during the trial.
Navarro's upcoming prison term highlights the legal repercussions faced by individuals involved in the aftermath of the Capitol riot.
