EVM-VVPAT case: We cannot control the elections, Supreme Court tells petitioner

1 year ago 21

The Supreme Court, which was hearing plea seeking complete verification of votes cast using Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT), told the petitioner that it cannot control the elections and the poll body has cleared doubts.

A two-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Dattahad said, "We cannot control the elections, we cannot control the functioning of another constitutional authority. The ECI has cleared doubts. We cannot change your thought process. We cannot issue a mandamus on the basis of suspicion."

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has reserved its judgment in the EVM-VVPAT case.
