NEW DELHI: An

earthquake

of

magnitude

4.2 shook the

Andaman Sea

region off the coast of India on March 12, at 11:32 pm.
According to the

National Center for Seismology

(NCS), the earthquake occurred at a depth of 67 kilometers with its epicenter located at latitude 10.06 and longitude 95.00.

As of now, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or disruptions reported in maritime or coastal activities.

Earthquakes are not uncommon in this region, which is situated near

tectonic plate boundaries

. The Andaman Sea lies along the boundary between the

Indian Plate

and the Burmese Plate, making it prone to seismic activity.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
