QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) – A 63-year-old woman was fatally struck by a car while she was riding an electric scooter in Queens Wednesday, according to the NYPD.
Mei Ying Lan, 63, was riding the scooter near College Point Boulevard and Blossom Boulevard around 10 a.m. when she was hit by a car from behind, according to the NYPD.
The driver, 41, was attempting to make a left turn onto Blossom Boulevard, police said.
The 63-year-old was rushed to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead, police said.
The driver stayed on the scene but police did not make any arrests, according to police.
Crashes have already killed one cyclist and five pedestrians in Queens this year, according to NYC Crash Mapper data.
On New Year's day, a pedestrian was struck by two different drivers in Queens and later died at a nearby hospital, police said.
