MASSAPEQUA, Long Island (PIX11) -- A community is coming together after dozens of cats were found abandoned in a wooded area in Massapequa on Tuesday.
Two bikers discovered the cats confined in cages and crates, John DeBacker, the vice president of Long Island Cat/Kitten Solution Inc., told PIX11 News.
Volunteers and members of the New York State Police and the SPCA responded. DeBacker said there were 30 cats in total.

"The cages had no bottoms to them, the food and water dishes were bone dry, the mesh playpens had holes in them, and a few cats were loose," said DeBacker. "I snagged one of the loose cats under a log, and another one climbed a tree."
The rescued cats were taken to the Oyster Bay Animal Shelter for evaluation.
