NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in an extraordinary
underwater ceremony
in the
Arabian Sea
off the coast of Gujarat.
The event involved performing a puja (a religious ritual) in the submerged remains of the ancient city of
Dwarka
, associated with Lord Krishna.
In captivating photos and videos posted on the Prime Minister's social media account, he can be seen wearing scuba gear as he descends into the azure waters to offer his prayers at this historically and spiritually significant site.
Sharing his profound experience,
PM Modi
expressed his deep connection to a bygone era of spiritual magnificence and unwavering devotion. He described the underwater visit to Dwarka, an ancient city believed to have been submerged after Lord Krishna's departure from Earth, as a truly divine encounter.
"To pray in the city of Dwarka, which lies beneath the waters, was an incredibly sacred experience. I felt a profound connection to an ancient era of spiritual grandeur and timeless devotion. May Lord Krishna bless us all," the Prime Minister wrote.
During his visit, PM Modi paid homage to the ancient city by offering peacock feathers, symbolizing Lord Krishna, who is said to have founded Dwarka. In a public address, he spoke of the city's significance, mentioning that archaeologists and scriptures have described Dwarka as a city with magnificent gates and towering buildings. He further shared his emotions, stating, "Today, I had the opportunity to personally witness those moments that will stay with me forever... I submerged myself in the sea and had a 'Darshan' (sacred viewing) of the ancient Dwarka city. It was a fulfillment of a decades-old dream for me."
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister inaugurated the 'Sudarshan Setu,' the country's longest cable-stayed bridge spanning 2.32 kilometers over the Arabian Sea. The bridge connects Beyt Dwarka island to mainland Okha in Gujarat's Devbhumi Dwarka district. Additionally, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects in the city, worth over Rs 4150 crore.
