Different takes: How US media is reporting on Donald Trump conviction

NEW DELHI: In a stark visual representation of how the nation's divisions are reflected in the media and the way journalists continue to wrestle with how best to deal with former US president Donald Trump's conviction, a flyer at Newark airport clicked a photo of a newsstand wherein separate newspapers dealt with the issue in vastly different ways.
Donald Trump on Thursday was convicted of

felony crimes

as a

New York jury

found him guilty of falsifying business records in a scheme to illegally influence the 2016 election, through hush money payments to a porn actor.

Jurors convicted Trump on all 34 counts after deliberating for 9.5 hours.
With this, Trump became the first

former president

to be convicted of felony crimes in the United States.
Daily newspapers and popular magazines across the US reported on the landmark legal reckoning for the former president on their front pages.

Many of Friday's front pages featured images of a frowning Donald Trump at the New York court where his hush money trial has been taking place. The headlines, however, varied.
While the Washington Post ran the news with the headlines 'Trump found guilty', the New York Times carried the news with the headline 'Guilty' in giant block letters.
Meanwhile, the New York Post took a different take with the headline 'Injustice', and highlights how the case was a "political hitjob".
In Russia, the largely Kremlin-controlled media reported on Trump's conviction with a bias in his favour.
"Justice New York way," was how a presenter on the popular Russian state channel NTV put it, with a correspondent then appearing to suggest the jury may not have considered their decisions thoroughly.
