The Supreme Court on Monday asked Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramachandra Pillai to approach the Delhi High Court seeking interim bail in the money laundering case relating to the Delhi excise policy case.

A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Satish Chandra Sharma asked Pillai to approach the high court for his plea seeking interim bail in the matter.

The top court also told the petitioner to present medical documents before the high court for his plea seeking interim bail on medical grounds.

Arun Ramachandra Pillai has approached the top court against the Delhi High Court order, which had adjourned his plea seeking interim bail as well as regular bail to July.

The petitioner told the court that he was arrested on March 6, 2023, and has been in custody since then except from December 18, 2023, to January 24, 2024, when he was granted interim bail to look after his wife. He also said that his medical condition had been aggravated during the investigation and during his incarceration.

He further contended that during his incarceration, he has been having severe lower backache, which affected his day-to-day chores. Also, due to the non-availability of proper treatment, he is facing the threat of permanent damage to his back. The petitioner has duly informed the jail doctor about his back pain issue and consequential restricted mobility and was also referred to outside-jail OPDs, Pillai's plea stated.
