Cyclist struck by car in Brooklyn, found unresponsive: NYPD

WILLIAMSBURG, Brooklyn (PIX11) – A cyclist had severe head trauma after being struck by a car in Williamsburg, police said. 

A 42-year-old cyclist was riding a bike eastbound on Flushing Avenue around 10 p.m. Sunday when he was struck by a car making a left turn from Flushing Avenue to Beaver Street, according to early information from the NYPD.

The cyclist was found unresponsive and rushed to an area hospital with severe head trauma, according to the FDNY and NYPD. 

The driver, a 38-year-old woman, was put in custody and with charges pending, police said Monday. 

So far this year, Williamsburg has seen one cyclist fatality and 34 injuries in crashes, according to data collected by NYC Crash Mapper. Some 419 cyclists have been injured in crashes in Brooklyn so far this year.
