Cultural event put up by children and young adults battling blood disorders

KOLKATA: From dance, drama, songs, recitation to mime children and

young adults

with

blood disorders

put up a garland of performance on Saturday, exhibiting their undaunting spirit and energy despite fighting their diseases. Organised by KHERI (Kolkata Haematology Education & Research Initiative) the annual

cultural event

had doctors supporting the cause.
While this was an annual event, many children and young adults who are being treated for their blood disorders have been taken into its wings by KHERI.

In addition to supporting their treatment the voluntary organization initiated by like-minded doctors and activists, have been holding regular art workshops which has also become a part of their therapy.
The cultural event titled Anandadhara at Rathindra Mancha, situated in Kolkata’s historic Jorasanko Thakurbari also had special performances by artists from Jogesh Mime Theatre group and Surma Dohar. Soumen Halder directed drama ‘ Bharate Chai’ was also highly appreciated by the audience.
Many from the medical community including Dr Pitbaran Chakraborty, Principal, NRS Medical College and Hospital, Dr Swapan Saren, director Central Blood Bank, Kolkata, Dr Pradeep Mitra, Dr Pramit Ghosh along with the President of KHERI, Dr Utpal Chaudhury and its working secretary Dr Rajib De, attended the function. The entire event was anchored by Dr Bijurica Chakraborty and actor Sanmitra Bhaumik.
“Patients await and prepare for this annual event throughout the year. We believe that engaging them in such creative activities expands their quality of life,” said Dr Rajib De.
