Crossing guard hit by car while helping children cross NJ street: police

FAIR LAWN, N.J. (PIX11) – A 71-year-old crossing guard was hit by a car in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, Wednesday morning, police said. 

Local police officers received multiple 911 calls for a man struck at Hoper Avenue and Arnold Street. A crossing guard was helping children cross the intersection when a Toyota Camry struck him at 8:40 a.m. Police say a 22-year-old driver was operating the car.

The driver remained at the scene until police arrived. 

The crossing guard was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. He is expected to survive, police said. 

An investigation is still ongoing, authorities said.
