Panaji: In a significant milestone for the ongoing

sewerage project

in the state capital, Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) has completed construction of the manhole located near the Sheetal Restaurant junction. IPSCDL officials said the completion of the manhole is a major

engineering achievement

as the contractor had encountered numerous challenges.

The presence of critical utility lines had made excavation for the manhole a challenge. “The excavation process was particularly delicate. It was carried out with utmost care to avoid any damage to the gas line passing through the excavation chamber.
The existing sewage pumping line, which transports sewage from the pumping station near Don Bosco to the sewerage treatment plant, had to be carefully preserved too,” said a Smart City official.
The presence of electricity and BSNL internet cables added to the complexity, prompting IPSCDL to direct the contractor to undertake manual excavation.

The manhole is a tri-junction for pipelines coming from three directions, and the authorities needed to ensure that all the pipelines were properly aligned.
“We are extremely proud of our team’s dedication and technical proficiency in completing this challenging project,” said a top official of IPSCDL. “Completion of this manhole is a testament to our commitment to enhancing the city’s infrastructure with precision and care.”
IPSCDL has set an ambitious target of completing all the ongoing Smart City projects in the state capital by May 31. With less than a fortnight to go, city planners and residents are beginning to have doubts about the city’s roads being restored before the monsoon.
