Cops seek access to Apple servers to find sex tapes in Prajwal Revanna's phone

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Karnataka Police probing the sex tapes case involving Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna has sought access to Apple's servers to find out the sexual abuse videos that were shot.

The SIT is trying to locate Prajwal Revanna's mobile phone, which was used to record explicit videos of women, sources told India Today on Saturday. The police believe the phone, which Prajwal claims was lost, is key evidence in the case.

Generally, Apple stores all information including texts, voice recordings, photos and videos on iCloud. Since Prajwal Revanna had claimed that his phone was lost (primary device), direct access to iCloud is the only way for SIT to prove that it was shot from the JD(S) MP's phone.

If Apple grants access to their servers to the SIT, this could help expedite their investigation process. The only strong piece of evidence the SIT has is the statements of one of the victims who was allegedly sexually abused by Prajwal Revanna.

Prajwal, who is seeking re-election from the Hassan constituency as an NDA candidate, was sent to custody till June 6 by a Bengaluru court on Friday.

Prajwal Revanna had left the country in April for Germany as the sex tapes case came to light. Several lookout notices were issued against him at all immigration points around the world. He landed in Bengaluru early on Friday and was arrested by the SIT before being taken to the CID office for interrogation.

A team of all-women cops, led by a woman IPS officer, were sent to arrest the JD(S) MP in what looked like a symbolic message by the Karnataka SIT. As many as five women police officers arrested Prajwal Revanna.
