The Election Commission of India has declared results for all the 543 Lok Sabha seats that went to the polls from April 19 to June 1, with the Congress winning 99 constituencies and the BJP securing 240, falling short of the majority mark of 272.

While Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to return for a third term at the Centre, his BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) fell short of expectations in the face of a surprisingly strong showing by the Opposition INDIA bloc.
