MLA
Partap Singh Bajwa
on Tuesday sought to know the stand of
AAP
on Centre’s decision to notify
Citizenship Amendment Act
(
CAA
), 2019.
Speaking during the assembly’s zero hour, leader of opposition Bajwa said the then Punjab govt, with Capt Amarinder Singh as the chief minister, had passed a resolution in the House to reject CAA.
“The move is seen as anti-minority. What is your view?” he said.
Bajwa said after he resigned as MP two months before his term ended, the chairman of district planning board, who is a local AAP leader, was laying foundation stones for projects funds sanctioned under
MPLAD
. “If you are accusing the PM of a credit war, your local leaders are also doing the same,” he said.
Bajwa continued to speak, even after his mic was turned off, to seek a reaction from the CM. Congress MLAs Pargat Singh and Sukhwinder Singh Kotli also stood up to support Bajwa. The speaker said as per rules, it was not necessary for treasury benches to give a reply to an issue raised during the zero hour. He later asked opposition MLAs not to give running commentary.
On Jan 17, 2020, Punjab assembly had become the second in the country, after Kerala, to pass a resolution moved by Congress urging the Centre to repeal the controversial CAA and make amendments to National Population Register (NPR) forms.
