KOLKATA: Kaustuv Bagchi, a member of the

West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee

, who had tonsured his head in protest of "

TMC misrule

", has resigned from the primary membership of the Congress. In a letter to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Bagchi said that he is finding it difficult to work in Congress due to “lack of respect”.
In the letter Bagchi said that the party—now in “self-destructive mode”, “does not seem to acknowledge the existence of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee but on the contrary, has accepted the Trinamool Congress as its outfit in West Bengal.” He alleged that the top leaders of the party maintained “a stoic silence” over the “Sandeshkhali episode” and left the rank and file of the party “dejected, embarrassed and demoralised”.

“The Congress workers in West Bengal have remained loyal to the party without being in power for the last 46 years and have faced a lot of humiliation from the incumbent ruling dispensation,” he added.
Bagchi’s resignation on Wedenesday evoked questions from several quarters over his political future. “I have not decided on that, but it will become clearer in a day or two. I have earlier said that Suvendu Adhikari has emerged as the face of the opposition in West Bengal. He is the general of the fight against Trinamool Congress,” Bagchi said.
