RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh chief electoral officer Reena Babasaheb Kangale took stock of the
preparations
for counting of votes in Rajnandgaon, Durg and Mahasamund districts and inspected
security arrangements
of strong room, counting rooms to ensure uninterrupted and well-organized
vote counting
scheduled on June 4. The CEO also gave an
ex-gratia cheque
of Rs 15 lakh to kin of a woman polling personnel who was killed in an accident after
election duty
on May 8.
According to election officials, CEO Kangale took stock of the security arrangements of
EVMs
kept in strong rooms in all three district headquarters.
CEO reviewed arrangements for assembly-wise counting rooms, meeting of candidates and their counting agents, entry passes, monitoring through CCTV cameras, videography on the day of counting, security arrangements, barricading, postal ballots and VVPAT slips.
She said that mobile phones, iPads, laptops, smart watches, cameras and other electronic devices will be banned in the counting halls.
Kangale discussed with assistant returning officers at the counting sites and inquired about the arrangements for bringing the control unit from the strong room to the counting room and back for counting of votes.
The counting of votes for three phases for Lok Sabha General Election-2024 in Chhattisgarh will take place on June 4.
In another development, CEO Kangale presented a total ex-gratia check of Rs 15 lakh to Nitin and Vipin Banjare, sons of a woman worker who died during election duty.
Madhu Banjare was killed in an accident during election duty in Durg when she was returning home.
Under the provisions of Chhattisgarh State Ex-gratia Compensation Payment Rules 2009, the office of Chief Electoral Officer had recommended payment of a total ex-gratia compensation amount of Rs 15 lakh to woman’s family.
