Chandigarh's average min temp this March lowest in 4 years: IMD

CHANDIGARH: The average

minimum temperature

in Chandigarh this month, till March 31, stood at 14.2 degrees Celsius, the lowest in four years, according to official data provided by the

Indian Meteorological Department

(IMD). The last time average minimum was recorded below this was 13.9 degrees in 2020.
Similarly, the average

maximum temperature

of 27.8 degrees Celsius this month is lower than the average for March for the past three years.

The average maximum lower than this was recorded at 25.7 degrees in 2020. The maximum temperature this month hit a high of 35.1 degrees Celsius on March 29.
On Friday and Saturday, a western disturbance over the region led to light rainfall, further cooling the tricity. On Sunday, the maximum temperature dipped from 32.8°C to 32.7 , while the minimum temperature rose from 17.2 degrees on Saturday to 19.0.
Over the next five days, maximum temperature is expected to reach around 32°C, with minimum temperatures ranging from 19°C to 20°C. Partly cloudy skies are expected over this period. Although western disturbances were reported, they did not bring significant rainfall compared to the previous year.
Chandigarh recorded 36.5 mm of rainfall by March 31, higher than the normal 18.6 mm, marking a 96% increase from the normal precipitation. Compared to the same period last year, 65.7 mm of rainfall was recorded.
