Assembly Elections

A compelling contest is anticipated in the Chalakudy Lok Sabha constituency, historically a Congress stronghold. The United Democratic Front (UDF) has assigned sitting MP Benny Behanan with the responsibility of defending the seat, while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) aims to challenge the Congress dominance by nominating C. Raveendranath, former Minister for Education.
In the 2019 parliamentary elections, Congress candidate Benny Behanan won with 4,73,444 votes (47.8%), while the CPM's Innocent secured 3,41,170 votes (34.4%). The voter turnout in 2019 was 80.49%

In the 2014 elections, Innocent, running as an independent candidate supported by the LDF, emerged victorious, marking a significant victory for the Left alliance. Underscoring the constituency's active participation in the democratic process.
For the 2024 elections, the key candidates include Congress's Benny Behanan, seeking re-election, and CPM's Prof. C. Raveendranath. With both parties holding substantial influence, Chalakudy remains a critical arena in Kerala's political landscape.

Prominent leaders like Innocent (actor and politician) and K.P. Dhanapalan have significantly influenced the region's political landscape.
