CBI arrests railway engineer in Madhya Pradesh for bribery

BHOPAL: The Central Bureau of Investigation (

CBI

) has arrested a

Senior Section Engineer

(Bridge) working with the South East Central Railway in Nainpur of Mandla district in Madhya Pradesh, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 39,000.
The CBI registered a case based against the railway officer identified as Uday Kumar, on a complaint filed on June 26, accusing the engineer of demanding a bribe of Rs 39,000 from a complainant.

The bribe money, allegedly amounting to 3% of a total bill of Rs 1,300,000, was demanded in exchange for allowing the complainant to work on a project without hassle and to expedite the clearance of a pending bill.
CBI laid a trap and apprehended the accused engineer while he was accepting the bribe from the complainant. The engineer was subsequently arrested and will be presented before a competent court. CBI officials also conducted searches at the residence and workplace of the accused, which led to the recovery of incriminating documents. The investigation into the case is still ongoing.
