Ranchi: CM Champai Soren-led
JMM-Congress-RJD govt
in Jharkhand will likely carry out a caste-based census, similar to the one conducted in neighbouring Bihar, after Lok Sabha elections this summer, senior officials in Ranchi said Sunday.
"Jiski Jitni Sankhya Bhaari, Utni Uski Hissedari. Jharkhand Hai Taiyar (Greater the number, the bigger the participation. Jharkhand is ready)," Champai tweeted.
CMO officials said Champai has instructed state's department of personnel, administrative reforms, and Rajbhasha to develop a draft standard operating procedure (SOP) for executing the caste survey.
SOP will undergo cabinet scrutiny and will be implemented upon ministerial council approval.
Champai's predecessor, Hemant Soren, who was arrested by ED on Jan 31 in connection with a land scam case in Ranchi, had supported a caste-based census in Jharkhand following Bihar's announcement of survey findings last Oct. Hemant's govt had passed a bill, promising to increase reservation in govt jobs for OBC communities by 13%. The bill awaits approval from governor CP Radhakrishnan.
