NEW YORK (PIX11) -- The Cannonball is rolling back into New York just in time for Memorial Day weekend.
The seasonal train dubbed the Cannonball, returned to service on the Long Island Rail Road on Thursday afternoon, marking the start of the transit agency's summer schedule.
The limited-run train offers express service between Penn Station and Montauk Mondays through Fridays during the summer. The Cannonball will make stops at Southampton, Bridgehampton and Easthampton on the way to Montauk.
It marks one of many changes on the LIRR for its summer service schedule, which took effect on May 19. In addition to the Cannonball express, the new schedules will offer two new Sunday trains with direct service to Penn Station and two new early morning weekday trains with enhanced service to Grand Central.
Commuters going between Long Island and New York City are urged to check the TrainTime app for the latest updates ahead of their travel.
