BHOPAL

: Four Central Bureau of

Investigation

(

CBI

) officers, including two on deputation from the Madhya Pradesh police, were arrested on alleged

bribery

charges. The arrests were made by a special team from Delhi following leads of bribery in connection with the ongoing probe into irregularities in the state's nursing colleges.
This development comes as a major setback to the investigation, which is the second major

scam

(after Vyapam) to be handled by the CBI in Madhya Pradesh.

The probe began in October 2022 based on an order from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
The High Court had expressed serious concerns after initial findings by the CBI revealed widespread irregularities in numerous nursing colleges across the state. These colleges, despite having approvals, failed to meet the mandatory standards set forth in the 2018

Nursing College

Rules.
Following the initial investigation, the High Court directed the CBI to conduct a comprehensive investigation into all 364 nursing colleges in the state. The CBI requested logistical support from the state government, which has agreed to provide revenue officers and arrange for lodging, boarding, and transportation for the investigation teams in different districts.
