AMBALA/KURUKSHETRA: Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Charuni held a symbolic
protest
for two hours by blocking several roads in districts of Haryana on Thursday, in protest against death of young farmer Shubhkaran Singh at
Khanauri border
and government’s use of excessive force against protesting farmers.
Roads were blocked from 12 noon to 2 pm. In Kurukshetra, National Highway (NH) 44 was blocked by
BKU Charuni
workers at Shahabad-Markanda, led by union spokesman Rakesh Bains.
In Pehowa, NH-152 (Ambala-Hisar) was blocked at Gangheri village.
In Yamunanagar, NH-344 was blocked at Kail Chowk near Jagadhri. Similarly, in Ambala, the Panchkula-Yamunanagar road was blocked near Laha Majri village.
The farmers only allowed the emergency vehicles like ambulance and military vehicles to pass through the blockade.
In view of the road block call, the district administration had diverted the traffic to the alternative routes.
“We blocked the roads at tehsil level in state in protest against the way Haryana government fired bullets and tear gas shells at farmers and damaged their tractors at Khanauri border”, said Rakesh Bains.
“The government shall accept the demands of the farmers. If it is not done, then we have convened a meeting of the core-committee of our union on Friday, after which a big decision would be taken”, said Bains.
Bains added that their union leader Gurnam Singh Charuni has 30 year long experience of organizing agitation and a strategy would be formed as per the tactics of the Centre government.
“If government continues more atrocities on the farmers, the agitation will be intensified”, said Bains.
