Mumbai-based Bharatnatyam dancer and choreographer
Apeksha Niranjan
will be performing for the first time at the
India Habitat Centre
, New Delhi, from 7pm on May 14.
The recital titled Nayanam, delves into the significance of the eyes as the windows to the soul, and its ability to define beauty, communicate emotions and enhance the storytelling aspect of dance.
It’s a thematic exploration of the myriad emotions and expressions conveyed through the eyes. In Sanskrit, the word
Nayanam
means eyes.
She was recently in the news for her collaboration with Polish folk group – Kapela Odmieńciese. Last month, she performed at Sinegog Konin, in Poland in an event organised by Prof Mandar Purandare. She says, “"After the wonderful experience of presenting Nayanam in Poland, I am incredibly excited to bring this performance to New Delhi. Nayanam is a recital where intricate emotions are conveyed through the eyes highlighting the expressive language of Bharatnatyam. It's an honour to share this unique creation with the discerning audience at the capital. I look forward to connecting with the audience and showcasing the profound storytelling power of the eyes in this recital."
Speaking about the inspiration behind the project, Apeksha remarked, "Eyes are not just organs of sight; they are portals to our innermost feelings. They hold the power to captivate, to convey the unspoken, and to transport the audience into the heart of the narrative."
The performance will also touch upon the concept of 'Antarchakshu', highlighting how individuals without physical sight perceive the world through their inner vision, exploring realms beyond the tangible.
