Bhagirath Choudhary, BJP Ajmer MP, sworn in as Union Minister after massive win

Ajmer MP Bhagirath Choudhary was on Sunday inducted as a Union minister of state in the Narendra Modi government for the second consecutive term.

Demonstrating substantial electoral support, Choudhary (69) won the 2024 Lok Sabha election by a significant margin of over three lakh votes. Garnering a total of 7,47,462 votes, he defeated the Congress candidate, Ramchandra Chaudhary.

Despite his success on the national stage, Choudhary faced a setback in the 2023 assembly elections when he contested unsuccessfully against Vikas Choudhary, who joined the Congress after being denied a ticket by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He is a loyal Jan Sangh member and BJP worker who has worked to strengthen the organisation and the party in his region.

The BJP's decision to back Choudhary for a second term reflects the party's confidence in his leadership and his ability to represent the interests of his constituency, Ajmer, effectively. His previous tenure, beginning in 2019, evidently resonated well with the supporters leading to their renewed trust and support in the 2024 elections.

Choudhary's victory underscores his continued popularity and the electorate's faith in his vision and efforts. He has long been a prominent Jat community figure in Ajmer's political landscape, establishing a strong foothold in the region over the years.

His political journey began in 2003 when he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the first time. Choudhary's popularity and effectiveness as a leader were further validated when he secured re-election as MLA in 2013.

In 2019, Chaudhary transitioned to national politics when the BJP nominated him as their candidate for the Lok Sabha elections. Contesting against Congress' Riju Jhunjhunwala, he secured a resounding victory, receiving an impressive 8,15,000 votes compared to his opponent's 3,98,000.

Choudhary -- BJP MLA in 2003 and 2013 -- is presently BJP's Kisan Morcha state president. He has completed his higher secondary education and is a businessman by profession.
