Bastar police identify 24 killed Naxalites as members of PLGA, MMC

Chhattisgarh police

have disclosed that among the 29 Maoists killed in an

encounter

in Kanker district, 10 were linked to the Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh (MMC) zonal committee, while 14 were associated with the outlawed organization's Peoples' Liberation Guerrilla Army (

PLGA

) formations.
The encounter, which took place on April 16 in the forests bordering Hapatola, Kalpar, Binagunda, and Koronar within the jurisdiction of the Chhotebethiya police station, led to the recovery of 29 Maoist bodies along with modern weapons.

The joint operation was conducted by the District Reserve Guards, Kanker, and the Border Security Force 94th Battalion.
After a four-day identification process, concluded on Saturday, it was revealed that besides the presence of cadres from the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee, members of the Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh (MMC) zonal committee were also present in the Kalpar-Hapatola forests.
Among the deceased Maoist leaders were Shankar Rao, a member of the Divisional Committee of the North Bastar Division Committee, and his wife Rita, a member of the Area Committee, from Warangal district of Telangana and Adilabad district. Surekha, a member of the MMC zonal committee, was a resident of Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra.

Police asserted that a press release issued by the North Bastar Sub-Zonal Bureau of the Maoists indicated the apprehension and disarray among Maoist organizations, highlighting their rapid decline in the absence of direction and leadership.
Superintendent of Police, Bastar range, P Sundarraj, reiterated the appeal to Maoist cadres to renounce violence and integrate into mainstream society for the region's peace and development.
