B-School student, siblings drown in separate incidents

Haridwar/Rudrapur: A first-year

MBA student

from Hooghly, West Bengal, drowned while bathing in the Ganga near the Garud Chatti bridge in Rishikesh around 3pm on Saturday. In another incident on the same day, two

siblings

, aged seven and eight, died after

drowning

in a pond near Shankar Farm, under the jurisdiction of the Pulbhatta police station in

Udham Singh Nagar

district.

Abhra Dube, 26, pursuing his MBA in Rajasthan, was in Rishikesh with five friends for a break during the long weekend ahead of Holi. Till the time of filing this report late evening on Saturday, Dube's body had not been found. Police said his family had been informed about the incident.
Lakshman Jhula SHO Ravi Saini said, "Police initiated a search operation but were unable to trace him. Our search will resume on Sunday."
Meanwhile, Anam, 7, and Shad, 8, children of Mohammad Shahadat from Sirauli in Shankar Farm area, accidentally fell into a pond formed as a result of illegal mining near Gaula river. While Anam's body was retrieved, Shad's body remained missing.

Rajendra Bisht, Pulbhatta police station in-charge, said, "Prima facie, it appears that illegal mining has led to the creation of hazardous ponds where the children drowned."
Authorities continued the search for Shad's body. Bisht added, "A thorough probe will be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident."
