temperature

, touching 37°C on Saturday. According to India Meteorological Department (

), the city had recorded 37°C on March 27, 1996, and 37.2°C in 2017.
IMD scientist A Prasad attributed the surge ‘to the northward movement of the ridge line causing heat waves to spread across north-interior Karnataka and Maharashtra’.

He noted that the El Niño phenomenon is currently above normal levels and is expected to persist for three more months after which it will weaken, leading to a more balanced monsoon.
“Citizens are advised to stay hydrated,” he said.
