has recently announced that aespa's Winter has undergone surgery to address pneumothorax, commonly known as a collapsed lung. The agency confirmed the reports on April 12, revealing that Winter's surgery was a preventive measure recommended by her doctor due to the condition's tendency to recur. A statement from SM Entertainment, as quoted by Soompi, read, "Winter recently underwent surgery for pneumothorax and is currently recovering.
As [pneumothorax] is a condition prone to recurrence, [the surgery] was carried out as a preventive measure in accordance with her doctor’s opinion, and the decision was made after plenty of discussion."
Winter is currently in the process of recovery following the surgery and SM Entertainment assured fans that her health remains their utmost concern, "Regarding her future schedule, we will consider Winter’s recovery status our top priority moving forward." Fans of aespa have rallied around Winter, sending wishes for her speedy recovery.
aespa is currently set to make a comeback in May, followed by a
world tour
commencing at the end of June.
