The Election Commission of India is today set to announce the dates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Here are some details on the upcoming polls:
- There are a total of 96.8 crore registered voters eligible to vote in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
- This includes 1.8 crore Indians who recently turned 18 and will be eligible to cast their vote for the first-time ever.
- In 12 Indian states, there are more women voters than men.
- There are 88.4 lakh voters are people with disabilities, and 48,000 from the transgender community.
- 10.5 lakh polling stations will be set up to conduct the election.
- 1.5 crore polling officials will be deployed to manage these booths.
- 55 lakh electronic voting machines will be used in the polls.
- The Election Commission of India has successfully conducted 17 general elections and 400 assembly polls.

The tenure of the present Lok Sabha ends on June 16 and a new House will have to be constituted before that. The tenure of Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Odisha assemblies will also end in June.
