in J&K’s Baramulla district, has made history by becoming the first-ever female cadet selected as Parade Commander at Prime Minister’s rally at this year’s Republic Day camp in New Delhi, said a defence spokesperson.
Ulfat, who is pursuing her BA Eng (Hons) from a Jammu college, was selected from among 2,274 NCC cadets across 28 states and Union Territories and 17 directorates in the nation.

Her outstanding performance earned her the prestigious title of Best Commander along with the DG Recommendation Medal Certificate.
Born in a village in Uri along the Line of Control, Ulfat pursued her schooling across various Kendriya Vidyalayas in Delhi, Jharkhand, and

before joining Government Women College in Jammu’s Gandhinagar. Her impressive array of NCC camps includes NSC, SNIC, RDC, Mini Sailing, and CATC, where she honed her skills and leadership abilities, said the spokesperson.
Lieutenant Commander Ankur Kumar, Commanding Officer of 1 J&K Naval Unit NCC, said Ulfat’s dedication and perseverance set her apart as a role model for cadets across the country. He said her selection as Platoon Commander is a testament to her hard work and commitment.

Sub-Lieutenant Dr Neelima, Ulfat’s ANO at GCW Gandhinagar echoed a similar sentiment. “Her struggles and triumphs inspire us all,” she said, adding that Ulfat’s journey from a remote background to becoming a national achiever is a testimony to her unwavering determination and resilience. Despite facing numerous challenges, including geographical barriers, her relentless pursuit of excellence propelled her forward.

“Her selection as Parade Commander is a proud moment for the entire Directorate. She is a shining example for cadets nationwide,” said Maj Gen RK Sachdeva, ADG JK&L Directorate, adding: “Her journey exemplifies the spirit of
