CHENNAI: A 35-year-old woman who

connived with her boyfriend

and murdered her husband, a real estate agent, and

buried his body

at Gingee in Villupuram district six years ago, was

arrested on Saturday

. Menaka, who had been hiding in her boyfriend's house all these years, has been

charged with the murder

of her husband Senthil Kumar, police said.
Senthil Kumar, 40, was reported

missing in 2018

. Following a complaint from relatives, police searched for him and found his skeletal remains in October 2020 and then arrested his driver Rajesh Khanna and his father-in-law among others. A probe showed Menaka too was part of the plan and hunt launched for her.
Senthil Kumar, an accused in the murder of his younger brother in a property dispute, was jailed in 2015 when Rajesh Khanna developed a relationship with Menaka. In 2017, Senthil came out on bai. In 2018, after learning of the relationship, he sacked Rajesh Khanna as driver. A week later Senthil Kumar went missing.
When police grilled Rajesh Khanna, he confessed to the murder and took police to the place where Senthil Kumar had been buried. Police exhumed Senthil's skeletal remains and arrested Rajesh Khanna and a few others who were found to be involveded in the crime. Menaka went underground.

On Saturday, the woman was arrested from a hideout in Sithalapakkam. Police found it was Rajesh Khanna's house. She rarely came out of the house which is located in a deserted stretch. Many people of the area who saw her thought she was Rajesh's relative staying in the house. She was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
