28 lakh students have benefited from TN’s skill development programme: Minister

CHENNAI: As many as 28 lakh youths have benefited from the skill development and training programme under the Naan Mudhalvan scheme of the Tamil Nadu government, minister for labour and skill development

informed the assembly on Friday. “The programme is helping the youths access job opportunities easily,” he said.
The minister was replying to a query of KMDK MLA

, who wanted to know if the govt would establish a skill development and training centre in Tiruchengode.

The minister said the Naan Mudhalvan scheme was helping lakhs of youths. The scheme was implemented in schools and colleges. District employment and career guidance centres were training youth in TNPSC, BHEL, TNPL,NLC, NTPC and Railway Recruitment Board examinations, he said.
Eswaran said an ITI should be opened in Tiruchengode. The minister said the announcement for an ITI in Namakkal district would be made in the next state budget.
