22 people rescued after boat catches fire near the Bronx: FDNY

CITY ISLAND, Bronx (PIX11) – One man was arrested after a boat caught fire near the Hart Island Ferry Terminal Saturday night, according to the NYPD. 

33-year-old Joshua Brito was accused of driving while intoxicated and reckless endangerment, according to the NYPD. At least 22 people were rescued after a boat caught fire around 8 p.m., officials said.

One person is in critical condition after the boat fire. 

Video posted to Citizen shows flames billowing out of the boat’s lower portion as people climb to the top of the boat. Three people were rescued from the water, according to the FDNY. 

Some 19 people were sent to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, fire officials said.  Other people on the boat swam to Harts Island for safety, officials said.
