BAREILLY: A
2 year old girl
was
allegedly raped
by her 20-year-old neighbour in
western UP
’s Budaun district on Thursday night.
The family found the
child unconscious
and immediately rushed her to the hospital. Later, they found that she had been
sexually assaulted
by their neighbour.
The police have registered an FIR against the accused under the sections pertaining to rape and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The neighbour was arrested after a brief encounter on Friday. The police said that the accused fired at them in an attempt to flee. However, he got hit in his right leg during the retaliatory firing by the police and was later arrested.
Additional superintendent of police, Amit Kishore Srivastava, said, “Sanjay Kumar, a resident of the same village, lured the young girl with popcorn. He took her to a nearby crop field, where he committed the heinous act. After the child lost consciousness, Sanjay fled the scene.”
“Police located him hiding in the same crop field. When asked to surrender, he opened fire at the police. When we retaliated, he got hit in the leg. He was later arrested,” he said.
Police booked Sanjay under sections 376 AB (rape of a woman less than 12 years of age) of the IPC and the Pocso Act. “The condition of the girl is stable and doctors are ensuring the best possible treatment for her,” Srivastava added.
