Panaji: The numbers for the
Little Gaurs League
were impressive. A total participation of over 1500 children, 1018 matches, 158 teams.
Little wonder the Little Gaurs League is Goa's biggest baby league.
This season, the LGL expanded to four zones - Sinquetim, Vasco, Monte de Guirim and Tuem zone. There were five age categories – U-6, U-8, U-10, U-12, and an exclusive U-13 girls category.
Organised by the
Forca Goa Foundation
, the
LGL Super Cup
saw the top two teams from each category in each zone compete, showcasing the growing talent within the
grassroots football
community.
The LGL Super Cup, held at the Salvador do Mundo Panchayat Ground, saw the participation of 40 teams and over 350 players from across the four zones. The growth in the number of participants engaging in grassroots football is a clear indicator of the increasing passion for the sport, said the organisers.
“This positive progression serves as a strong motivator for the foundation, to intensify its efforts in enhancing and widening its community involvement programs. The ultimate aim is to further cultivate a deeper appreciation and a stronger passion for football within the community,” said Nathaniel da Costa, head of grassroots development, Forca Goa Foundation.
In the finals of the U-6 category, Manas Sports Development Foundation (MSDF) edged out Football Club YFA (Youth Futsal Academy) for the top honour. Goa Football Development Council, Navelim, emerged triumphant in the U-8 category, while YFA secured the second spot.
The U-10 category saw Goan Champs claim the top spot, followed by Salgaocar FC.
In the U12 category, the winners were TKSA Titans (The Kings School Academy), with FC Goa as runners up, while The Kings School Academy also won the U-13 category with Compassion FC finishing a notch below.
