VISAKHAPATNAM: Ahead of the upcoming elections, a significant number of

weapons

in the North Andhra region have been handed over to the police by the individuals as per the

district administration

's directives.
Out of 1750 weapons, 1400 have already been deposited at various

police stations

. Most licensed gun owners in the region have complied with this order, with only around 350 guns remaining with security guards at banks.
Interestingly, the newly established Alluri Sitarama Raju district has minimal licensed

firearms

.

The district has only three licenced weapons, including two at the security guards at banks and with a former MLA.
However, many country-made weapons have been voluntarily surrendered by tribal communities in this district. Around 100 country-made guns have been deposited at the police by the tribals to date. Most of the country made weapons deposited in the district from Munchingput, Pedabayalu, Chintapalli, Rampachodavaram, Gurtedu, Yetapaka, and other areas. Another newly formed district Parvathipuram Manyam had 94 firearms.

In the neighboring districts, a substantial number of firearms have also been deposited, with Vizianagaram leading the count. Various royal families in Vizianagaram are among those who have submitted their old weapons for safekeeping at licensed arms dealers and submitted the receipts to the cops.
Srikakulam district and Anakapalli district have also seen a significant number of firearms being handed over. In Visakhapatnam city, a large number of weapons have been deposited, especially by security guards at banks. The city boasts a high number of gun licenses, particularly in specific police station areas. Overall, a considerable portion of the weapons are now in the custody of authorities, ensuring a safer environment in the region.
