KOLKATA: 14 persons were
arrested
by Bidhannagar Police for
disorderly conduct
during and after the highly anticipated
Kolkata derby
where
Mohun Bagan
had thrashed
East Bengal
3-1 at
Salt Lake stadium
while booking their spot in the ISL playoffs on Sunday night.
Cops said following the game, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal
fans
were engaged in a heated exchange of words and even got engaged in a scuffle outside the stadium while exiting the ground.
Sources said when cops went to calm them down, they were even pushed and heckled, till a larger team of officers came to the spot and separated the two groups.
“There was some heated exchange of words but none were injured. We made some preventive arrests of those people who were drunk and were misbehaving in public,” said a senior officer of Bidhannagar City police.
Those arrested however were later granted bail.
The match had begun with high intensity, but it was Mohun Bagan who quickly established control. Despite an early missed opportunity by Cleiton Silva of East Bengal, who failed to convert a penalty in the 14th minute, Mohun Bagan capitalized on it and went on to score three goals in the first half itself.
